The Executive Branch of LSU Student Government is led by an
elected president and vice president, supported by a diverse team of
appointed directors and staff. This branch oversees various departments
that focus on enhancing student life, including academic affairs, athletics,
sustainability, diversity, health and wellness, and more. Additionally, the
Executive Branch coordinates College Councils for each senior college and
the Graduate School, fostering communication between students, faculty,
and administration. Through these initiatives, the Executive Branch plays a
pivotal role in advocating for student needs and implementing programs
that enrich the LSU community.
The LSU Student Government Legislative Branch, known as the
Student Senate, comprises elected senators representing each of LSU’s
senior colleges. Led by an elected Speaker and Speaker Pro Tempore, the
Senate is supported by appointed legislative staff and officers. Senators
convene weekly to discuss and pass legislation, advocate for student
interests, and collaborate with the administration. The Senate’s work
includes allocating student fees, addressing campus issues, and enhancing
student life. Meetings are open to all students, fostering transparency and
community involvement.
The LSU Student Government Judicial Branch ensures the interpretation and enforcement of the Student Government Constitution and
bylaws. It comprises the University Court, General Court, Election Court,
and Judicial Staff. The University Court, the highest authority, handles
appeals and advisory inquiries, while the General and Election Courts
address specific cases within their jurisdictions. All courts convene weekly
during the Fall and Spring semesters, with meetings open to the public
except for certain private deliberations. The branch maintains a Judicial
Repository to provide transparency and public access to case records and
decisions.
